admitting defeat

Well not really. I did take an extended break. Moving, heartbreak, life's insanity. Yeah it all got in the way. There will be no half marathon for me next month but I am not giving up. I am getting settled into my new home. The job situation looks like it may be getting even better soon and if that does happen (please oh please God, may this happen) then I will be able to work only one job. This will open up my schedule so that I can run again and have the funding and time to start kung fu as well. I really want to do this so I am praying that this works out soon. In any case, no matter what happens, I am not defeated. The only way that will happens is if I give up on myself and going after my dreams and I absolutely refuse to do that!

lost

That is how I feel right now. There is too much going on and I do not feel that I am moving forward. More to come (I hope).

neophyte white belt

My blog has changed names as you can see although, it still means the same thing. A neophyte is someone who is new to something and is learning a new craft. Whenever you endeavor to begin a journey into the realm of martial arts, you begin as a white belt. Beginning in December I will be learning the art of Kung Fu. (watch out Addison)

In June I decided to take on the Juggernaut of getting myself physically fit. It was a promise that I made to myself when I was in my teens. I would do whatever it takes to be physically fit and mentally sound by the time I turned 30. I actually have looked forward to turning 30 for years because I thought I might finally be a real "grown up." Well I'm still working on the "grown up" part but I have been actively going afterthe rest. *LOL*

In any case with 6 months and 1 day to go until I am 30 I have my plan of action going and I am excited. This year I have gone after many goals and made some of my dreams into realities. I have made a good start on my fitness goals and now I am ready to take it to the next level. KYAAAAH!

dreaming of a kung fu christmas

It has been decided by the high counsel of elders (the old farts in my head) that I will begin to learn Kung Fu starting in December. Today I went in for a trial class at Wujido Martial Arts Institute Dallas. It was AWESOME! After only 20 minutes I was sweating and shaking and after another five minutes I almost passed out while holding the "horse stance." It was GREAT! (note to self: eat before engaging in intense physical exercise, duh!)

I pushed my body as far as it could go and I was severely challenged. I was thinking,"Man what am I getting myself into? This is much more difficult than that school I went to last week! I don't think I am going to be able to do this." At that moment I realized that this is exactly where I need to be. This is the challenge I am looking for. I want to push my body to its peak in order to get the most out of it. I want to master my mind so that I can overcome the discomfort that is sure to come when we are doing strengthening exercises.

Learning a martial art has been a dream of mine since I was a kid watching the Saturday afternoon Martial Arts Matinee on TV. As I have grown and come to understand more about the many benefits of Martial Arts, I became more interested in following that path. Discipline, respect for others, focus, sincerity and balance are all key highlights I look forward to grasping and living out.

still trucking

Nope, I did not give up. I did however take a break. I know I said i would try to not miss any days but life happens. I have started over... kind of. I am doing the walk/ jog combo but I am going for 3 miles because that is the last jogging distance I reached. Hopefully it will only take a couple of weeks to get to the point of jogging the complete distance.

30 minutes

YES! I was able to jog for a full 30 minutes today. For 3 weeks I have not been running due to emotional issues manifesting in physical form. I have not been able to eat. No food, no fuel, not good. So you can imagine how excited I was when I was able to jog for 30 minutes, which means I am moving along according to schedule. I am going to do my best not to miss any more days.

charging your battery

Just a little heads up. It is absolutely essential to eat when you are running. No this is in no way profound but I am just posting this as a reminder to myself to not run when I have not had enough to eat. Passing out while running would most definitely not be good for my health. My progress has slowed a bit because of apetite issues I have had as of late. But I have not given up. I'm just going slower than I would like to is all.
